Born on 07/23/65 in Stroke-On-Trent (UK), while his mother has just leaved France. His nickname "Slash" comes from his some violent behaviour. His father was an artsist, he made many album covers (Neil Young, Joni Mitchell). His mother was fashion designer, she worked with for many famous individuals including David Bowie. Slash first began his guitar playing on a one string spanish guitar, which his grandmother can attest. The first song he ever played was "Rocks" of Aerosmith.
Several of Slash's other influences include Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.
With Steven Adler, he learned guitar: he took one guitar lesson, but he teacher wanted to play scale, and he wanted to play Smoke On The Water...so he learned alone. Quick, he became better than Steven, so Steven stopped guitar to start playing drums. Slash's grand-mother bought him a copy of Gibson Explorer. He claims to have played guitar 12 hours a day, and didn't go to school. Slash bought a new guitar, a copy of Les Paul Memphis, which he will destroy because he couldn't keep it tuned. He bought then a B.C. Rich Mockingbird. First, he was in a band called Road Crew and after started the Guns N' Roses adventure.
During the recording of Appetite For Destruction, the producer suggested Slash to try a Gibson Les Paul...and so was it! Slash now plays most of the time on various Gibson Les Paul Standard guitars.
